Make a backing track, then sing it yourself
Updated 26 October 2026
Zonik makes an original backing track from your description. Choose instrumental, describe the mood and instruments, then use a paid Studio plan to record your own voice over it.
Vocal separation is currently unavailable. Start with an instrumental when you want a backing track without an AI singer.

How it works
- Make the backing track. Describe the style, tempo and instruments, and choose instrumental when you generate it.
- Open it in the Studio. A paid plan gives you editing and recording: trim, loop and rearrange the song’s sections.
- Find your melody. Loop a section and practise your own lyrics over the instrumental.
- Record your voice. Plug in headphones, use the count-in and metronome if you want them, and record a take in your browser.
- Mix and export. Balance your voice against the instrumental with EQ and effects, then download the mix as a WAV, or take your recorded tracks and project files into your DAW.
Already made a song with vocals?
You can still edit its sections and record over the full song in the Studio, but you cannot currently remove its AI singer. Generate a new instrumental if you want music without vocals. It will be a new performance, so the arrangement may differ. See the AI instrumental generator.
What you need
- A paid plan. Studio editing, mixing and recording are part of Creator, Pro and Studio. Vocal separation is currently unavailable.
- A laptop or desktop with a microphone, and headphones so the band doesn’t bleed into your take. Listening and publishing work on a phone; recording wants a bigger screen.
- A browser that allows the microphone. Zonik asks the first time you record, and your takes stay private to you until you publish.
Why sing it yourself
It sounds like you, and it makes the song more yours in a legal sense too. Purely AI-generated audio may not be protected by copyright, while a vocal you wrote and performed is human work. On Pro and Studio the melody you sang can also be exported as MIDI, so you can rebuild the song in any software.
Common questions
Can I remove the vocals from a song I made?
Not currently. Vocal separation is unavailable, so songs do not automatically come with separate vocal and instrumental tracks. Generate an instrumental from the start if you want to sing over it.
Can I remove vocals from any song, like one I didn’t make here?
No. Vocal separation is currently unavailable, and Zonik is not an upload tool for other people’s recordings.
Is this a karaoke maker?
You can generate an original instrumental and record your own lyrics over it on a paid Studio plan. It does not currently remove vocals from existing songs. For existing hits, use a karaoke service that licenses them.
Where are my vocal takes stored?
On your device first, so the Studio plays them instantly. They are saved to your account only when you choose to, in a private folder only you can read.
Can I export my vocal separately?
Yes. Take the tracks and project files into your DAW, with your vocal as its own track.
